Blair, James - 1800 - Rowan County, NC - Wills Submitted to the USGenWeb Archives by Benjie Blair general@internettport.net In the name of God Amen: This 10 day of December A.D. 1800. I James Blair of the State of N. Carolina and county of Rowan being in good health and perfect mind and memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed one for all men to die. Do make ordain & constitute this my last will & test: That is to say prinsipally and first of all I give & recomend my soul unto the hands of God that gave it & as for my body I recomend it to be buried in a christian like manner at the discretion of my executors by me hereafter nemed, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall recieve the same again by the almighty power of God. And as touching such worthy estate where with it had pleased God to bless me with I give, desire & dispose in the following manner & form to acct. 1. I give will and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah blair her dower according to law and also over and above one horse mare and her colt and two milk cows, taking her choise out of my stock of cattle, & also her bed & furniture. 2. I give will & bequeath to my two daughters by my first marriage that is to say Thomas MC Cartney's wife and Nathaniel Souders wife. To Thomas McCartneys wife I give and bequeath her ten pounds over & above what she has already received & to Nathaniel Souders wife I give and bequeath fifteen pounds over & above what she has already received to be paid out of my movable estate one year after my death. 3. I give & bequeath to my son James all that tract and parcell of land lying an being at the east side of swearing creek. The Creek to be the line between that and my other land. 4. I give and bequeath to my two sons Smith & Andrew Blair all that tract & parcel of land lying & being in the west side of swearing creek, on which I now live to be equally divided between them that is to say after they arise at the age of twenty one years. They should each of them choose a man to value the land after it is divided, who shall say the difference that may be between them & the one that recieves the most valuable part I bind to make good the difference in value by paying the other in money what is agreed on by these men so choosen, & if these men so choosen can not agree as to the difference in value for them to choose a third man whose decision shall be final. I do give and bequeath to my son Smith one horse one horse crature & one bed & furniture I also give & bequeathe to my son Andrew one bay May Mare & one bed & furniture. 5. I give & bequeath to my threee daughters by my last marriage, that is to say Rachell that was married to Wil M. Carson one bed and beding one cow which all is in my posession & to my daughter Mary I give & bequeath one bed & beding which she has received & five pounds in money I give & bequeath to my daughters Fanny one bed and furniture & one cow. 6. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Hannah one negro man by name Jass during her natural life and at her death I desire that he may be sold & the money to be equally divided between the children by my last marriage. 7. I desire after the legacies above mentioned are all paid, if their should be any thing remaining that it should be equally divided between all my children by my last marriage. And I do hereby make ordain, constitute and appoint my trusty friend Edwd Chambers executor of this my last will & testament hereby rearing all former wills by me made.
