North Carolina, Rowan County Will Book "C", pg 231 Will dated March 8, 1780 Probated in 1804 In the name of God, amen; I , Leonhard Kern, of the county of Rowan and state of North Carolina, yeoman, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of body, knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, and do make ordain and constitute this my last will and testament, that is to say, first of all, I recommend my soul to God, who gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almight Power of God and as to such worldly goods as it had pleased God to bless me with I give, devise and dispose of in the following form: First -- I give and bequeath to my beloved son Leonard Kern as much money as entried and surveyed and cleared out of the office, two hundred acres of land, lying on the east side of a branch of Pounders Fork, joining Michael Young and Jacob Young's land, as made my son Leonard land free, and also-- I give and will and bequeath unto my son Peter a deed of one hundred acres of land lying on the east side of a branch of Pounders Fork, joining my other deeded land and all. I give and bequeath to my son Peter, fifty-three and one-half acres of land, the old deeded land whereon I now live, joining the new deed of one hundred acres, which I left to my son Peter to be laid off all along the east side of the said line of the old deeded tract whereon I now live, and the plantation whereon I now live, I give, will and bequeath to my son Phillip and containing one hundred fifty-three and one half acre land of the same tract acres of land and a half-acre, after my son Peter has fifty three and one-half acres of land of the same tract of land on the east side of Pounders Fork, the said tract of land on the east side of Pounders Fork, whereon I now live containing two hundred seven acres of land. As for all my moveable property, notes, bonds, money and all things else that I possess, I give and bequeath unto my daughters, Mary Lane, Margaret Lovelace (m) and Catherine to be equally divided, the whole of my movable property that is my will that each of my daughters should have a equal part with each other, and for the true performance of this my last will and test, I do make, ordain, constitute and appoint my true and trusty friend, David Smith, Sr., and my son Leonard, whole and sole executors of this my last will and test given unto them a full power to do and perform the several articles and things herein mentioned.
