This seventeenth day of July in the year of our Lord 1781 I Mary Houston of Rowan County in the state of North Carolina, widow, being aged and weak of body, but of sound mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore: Do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say; principally and first of all I give and bequeath my soul to Almight God who gave it. And my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian and decent manner at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but I shall receive the same again reunited to my soul at the general resurrection by the might power of God. And as for such worldly goods as God has been pleased to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. To wit. First, I allow all my lawful debts and funeral charges to be punctually paid. 2ndly I give and bequeath unto my eldest son William Houston, my large Bible, one sermon book and the spoon mould; and to his son William one Negro boy name Ned, and to his daughter Elisabeth sixteen pounds old trade to be paid out of the money which is in her fathers hands. 3rdly I give and bequeath unto my three grandchildren, viz. my son Aaron's children as follows namely to his eldest son David HOuston one Negro boy named London, and to his two daughters one featherbed in their possession. 4thly I give and bequeat unto my son John Houston one large Confession of Faith, one large trunk, a chickrell, one cutting knife, one iron [unreadable] together with all my other iron utensils, and to his son Jonathan my largest iron pot; and to his daughter Mary six pounds old trade, to be paid out of the money which is in her father's hands. 5thly I give and bequeath unto my son David Houston one smoothing iron and the branding irons beside what he has got already. 6thly I give and bequeath unto daughter Mary Clark my featherbed and its furniture. 7thly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jean Watson my Negro wench named Mattilda on condition of her paying to her sister Mary Clark an acknowledgment to the value of a good yearling colt. 8thly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Agness Beatey my saddle and bridle one little trunk one bedstead and my silver buckles and to her son David one stallion colt now in his possession and to her daughter Mary my spinning wheel which I had of Samuel Templeton. 9thly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Douglas one bed quilt and one sheet. 10thly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Beatey one plain feather bed and bolster and one iron hackler. 11thly I give unto my son-in-law Samuel Templeton one silver dollar. 12thly It is my will that all the reaminder of my goods, chattels, cash, credits, and effects be equally divided between my three sons William, John and David, and three of my daughters namely Agness, Hannah and Maragaret, each of the six to share alike, which I hope my executors will divide in friendship without sale. Lastly, I nominate and appoint my two sons William Houston and John Houston to be the executors of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby utterly revoke, disavow and make void all former and other wills, legacies, bequests and executors by me formerly made, nominated or appointed; ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
