Michael Baker - 1839 - Rowan County, NC - Wills Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Peggy Sue Wilson pwilson411@aol.com I Michael Baker of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina, being weak in body, but of a sound mind and memory Thank's be to God for the same, calling to mind the shortning of life, and the certainty of death, I do ordain this my last will and testament in the following manner. That is to say, I commit my Soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust from whence it came to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter mentioned and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I do will devise and bequeath in the following manner: I will that all my lawfull debts be paid and my funeral expences discharged, Item 1 I give and bequeath to my son JOHN's HEIRS fifty dollars in money. Item 2 I give and bequeath to my son JACOB the Mill and land contained thereto, Item 3 I give and bequeath to my son HENRY that tract of land that I got from John Hughey also his bay mare, saddle and bridle and Rifle Gun, Item 4 I give and bequeath to my son GEORGE that tract of land that I got from Robert Hughey, his Sorrel Horse, saddle, Bridle and Rifle Gun, Item 5 I give and bequeath to my son MOSES that tract of land that he now lives on which is the North and West part of the land I now live on also his horse, saddle and bridle and Rifle Gun, Item 6 I give and bequeath to my daughter NANCY the house I now live in with the balance of the land not divided also one cow her choice, Item 7 I give and bequeath to my daughter SARAH one hundred dollars in money. Item 8 I give and bequeath to my daughter SUSAN on hundred dollars in money, Item 9 I give and bequeath to my daughter POLLY's two sons twenty five dollars a piece, Item 10 I give and bequeath to my daughter CATHERINE one hundred dollars after taking out the note of Sixty-three dollars that hold on JOHN GARVER, Item 11 I give and bequeath to my daughter BETSEY the house she now lives in with about one acre of land commencing at the black jack near the still house running east to George Smith's line thence south to the pasture fence thence west to the branch bottom thence north to the beginning, also all the property that I bought at Turner's sale - one bed and the hogs. Item 12 I will that Milly has her freedom to live with my daughter NANCY, Item 13 I give and bequeath all the balance of my property to be sold and equally divided amongst my children. Item 15 I allow my son Jacob to lift BETSEY's part of my sale money give to her she may stand in need. Lastly I constitute and appoint my two sons JACOB AND HENRY sole Executors in this my last will and testament, In witness whereunto I set my hand and seal this 28th January 1839.
