Peter Lowrance - 1767 - Rowan County, NC - Wills Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Twylla Teer edteer@bellsouth.net FIRST WILL OF PETER LOWRANCE: "In the name of God Amen the first day of Jenuary in the year or our Lord 1767, I, Peter Lowrance of North Carolina and Rowan County form as being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of same in the manner and form following that is to say in the first place I give and bequeath to Mary my dearly beloved wife all movebles only a mear and sadele and bridel saadele and bridel worth three pouns and gen barel hook and marinless (sic?) to Peter my son and shee shall put the yrine in good reper for my son Peter My well beloved son Peter Lowrance sannce (sic?) the one halfe of a plantation in Orange Count[y] North Carolina also I give to my well beloved son William Lowrance the other half of the plantion with my son Peter only my son Peter is to have the first chouse of the land only to tie Ceyclaly (sic?) directed by the men Chosen by the Executors saed plantation is to be rented to pay quitrents and the remainded of the rent is to be for the benefit of the wido and the children in during her widohood and she is to have the plantation I now live on during her widohood and ten years afters and if she ware brack out tha[t] the settlement and she cannot live therefore is to have the plantation clear of rents for the remainder of widohood and if any of my children die before they come to the years that the law requires to be of reage that ther part of my Estate shal I bee eqely divided amongst the remender of my children and she scolls the children out of their part of the Estate and letting the daughters rede the bireliel and testament and the boys shall bee terned to rede the biriel and testament and wrte and sefir as far as the rule of three and shee shall pay yearhletes dues and demans aginst the Steete of Pieter Lowrance out of hire parte and neeld] for the plantation wich I now live on sede Mary Lowrance is to doo all wit (sic?) of her only part of the Stete and the plantation I now live an shall be solde and to the beste advantage after the wido time is oute and the wido is to have ten pouns of the prise of the land my tow oldes[t] douters shall have three pouns eache of thame and the remainder of the moneyes shall bee eqelay devided among my five douters Elibath Lawrence Mary Lowrance Keticte Lowrance Eve Lowrance Christian Lowrance. THE SECOND WILL OR DOCUMENT OF PETER LOWRANCE: "IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN: I Peter Lowrance of Rowan County, in the Province of North Carolina, Being thror the abundant goodnefs and mercy of God, thor weak in Body, yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory; Do this twenty fourth Day of Auguft, in the year of our Lord one thoufand seven hundred and Seventy two, Make; Conftitute this my laft will and testament, in manner and form following, to wit: first of all, I moft humbly, Bequeath, my soul to God my Maker befeeching his Moft gracious acceptance of it, through the all sufficient merits and meditation of my Redeemer Jefuf Christ, and my Body to the Earth from whence it came to be Buried in a decent and Christian manner, at the Difcrefsion of my Dear wife, and my Executors hereafter named, in hope of a Joyfull Refurection, through the Mirrits, of my Ever Living Redeemer, Jefus Christ; and as to my worldly Estate; which God has bleft me with; I will and pofitively order that all; my lawfull debts be paid. I alfo will and Bequeath to my Dear and Loving wife One third of my moaveable Estate I also will and order that my Negro wench named Fanah be not sould with my other moavebles, but that she stay with and be under the command of my beloved wife During her widdowhood, Likewise that my beloved wife have the use of my plantation and this houfe wherein I now dwell, for the mantainance of her and my children and if my Beloved wife shall be pleased to Chuf (sic??) a second hufband, then the above named Negro wench to sould and her increafe and the money divided as of my other moaveables and my houfe and plantation then also to be let or rented for the ufe and benefit of my children, by my Executors herein after mentioned. I also defire and order that my land be equally divided to my children by my Executors, according to the plan which I have drawn upon the back of this paper and I do order make Conftitute and Conftitute and appoint my well beloved Brother-in-Law, John Perkins, and my well Beloved Brother, Isack Lowrance to be my whole and sole Executors, of this my Laft will and testament, Difallowing, Difanulling and making void all other will and wills by me here to fore made Ratifying and Confirming this my laft will and testament in witnefs whereof I have set my hand and seal this Day and year above written."
