Hampton Cemetery, Rutherford County, NC Submitted to the USGenWeb Archives by W. D. Floyd HAMPTON CEMETERY By W. D. Floyd This cemetery is located on the north side of Cathey’s Creek and the west side of US 64. Go 3 tenths of a mile and look to the west and you will see a brick house kind of down in a little hollow. The cemetery is a few hundred feet duewest of this house just on the west side of an old road bed. I was there December 16, 1997. Hampton, Adam May 19, 1792 November 28, 1875 Born at *Gilbert Town. Hampton, L????? M. Age 35 years December 14, 1854 1 broken marker and evidence of 2-4 graves marked with field stones. * I assume that the Gilbert Town that is referred to on the marker is Gilbert Town, NC that was the county seat for Rutherford County from 1781 to 1785 and had both armies camped nearby before the battle of Kings Mountain. There is a historical marker on US 221N a couple of miles away and a handmade sign at the actual location of Gilbert Town. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HomePage ------------------------------------------------------------------------ These pages and information thereon are not to be reproduced in any form for profit or distribution without the permission of W.
