AN OLD METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY - Rutherford County, NC - Cemeteries AN OLD METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY Rutherford County, NC Located on Broad River and directly across the river from the home of Ben Sumner (Foxhaven). It is located on a road that runs to a two story home on former Lynch plantation. A road in 1800s crossed the river between the Morris and Lynch plantations and apparently at the top of the hill above the Lynch place was a Methodist Church. The cemetery is located on the side of the road at the top of the hill. William H. Gibbs was the son of Henry Gibbs and Elmira Allen Metcalf, widow of William Metcalf. William Gibbs was married February 13, 1870, to Amanda Kilpatrick, daughter of M. H. Kilpatrick. Clarence W. Griffin in “History of Old Tryon and Rutherford Counties” gives date of marriage of David Dickey and Mary McFadden as October 20, 1782. He also states: “Madison H. Kilpatrick, who was sheriff of Rutherford County, was born December 18, 1813, married Martha M. Lynch on June 6, 1841, and died December 23, 1876. He was buried at the old Dickey cemetry near the Lynch place." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ These pages and information thereon are not to be reproduced in any form for profit or distribution without the permission of W.
