Floyd ==================================================================== Rutherford County, NC Cemeteries PLEASANT HILL CEMETERY Rutherford County, NC African-American By W. D. Floyd From Rutherfordton, NC take Highway US-64 toward Morganton, NC. Go seven miles or so, past Westminister, and find Centennial Road going west off US-64. Follow this road for 2-3 miles and find Camp Creek Road going off to the north in the middle of a pretty good left curve. Follow Camp Creek Rd. down the hill and to the top of the next hill where you will find a gravel drive going off to the west. Follow this drive about a mile or more until you find a nice mobile home on the left. The cemetery is almost directly behind this mobile home about 1500 feet over on the top of the next ridge. It is a little tough to make the trek over to the cemetery because it is pretty steep and overgrown. The cemetery is in thick pine trees and is in pretty good shape. I guess the pine trees kind of protects it but look out when they decide to harvest the trees. This is an African-American cemetery that needs to be preserved since it is way off the beaten path. It needs a road into it and some of the trees taken out. There are probably 50 - 100 graves marked with field stones and no telling how many unmarked ones. I was there April 17, 2001.
