WATKINS CEMETERY - Rutherford County, NC - Cemeteries WATKINS CEMETERY RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC By W. D. Floyd This cemetery is in the southeast part of Rutherford County, NC just off on the north side of a dirt road that runs between Old US 221A and Prospect Church Rd. in Cleveland County, NC. This is the Mosteller Road. Easiest way to get there would be to go south by Prospect Baptist Church to the first road to the west. After you turn west go down the hill and cross the creek and to the edge of the woods on the north side of the road. Park vehicle and walk around the edge of the woods to the top of the hill then into the underbrush. This is the cemetery. Between Hugo the hurricane, a tornado and the cutting of some timber the cemetery is pretty much destroyed or covered over with fallen trees and underbrush. I was there December 23, 1997 and could only find four markers with inscriptions. There are numerous fieldstones. I would think that this cemetery had 50-60 graves but there was no real way of telling.
