Rutherford County, NC - Cornelius Clemente Revolutionary War Pension, 1834 November 1, 1935 Mrs. B.K. Scott Park Avenue Tallahassee, Florida Dear Madam: The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim S.8218 based upon the military service of Cornelius Clements. He was born in 1757 near Augusta, Georgia. The names of his parents were not given. He moved to Rutherford County, North Carolina, in 1779 and enlisted and served as private with the North Carolina Troops as follows: in the winter of 1780, three months in Captain Gilkey's Company in Colonel Hampton's Regiment; in the latter part of 1780, three months in Captain James Withrow's Company in Colonel Hiller's Regiment; from the summer of 1781, three months in Captain Lumkin's Company in Colonel Malmady's Regiment and was discharged November 29, 1781. He was allowed pension on his application executed April 23, 1834 at which time he was living in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The papers in this claim contain no data relative to the soldier's family. This is the history of the only soldier named Cornelius Clemente that is found in the Revolutionary War records of this office and the papers in said claim contain no data relative to his having served in the War of 1812.
