Howard jhhoward@comcast.net May 17, 2007, 9:01 am Revolutionary War Pension File David Dickey (1747-1835) – Mary (Heeslip) McFadden Dickey (1755-1827) The following is from the David Dickey (GA, NC, SC) Revolutionary War Pension File: State of North Carolina, Rutherford County. On this 18th day of October 1832 personally appeared before us Ambrose Mills(?) & William Richardson, Justices of the peace for the County and State aforesaid now called for the purpose David Dickey a Resident of the United States in the County of Rutherford and state of North Carolina aged Eighty five years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his Oath make the following Declaration in order to Obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress passed the 7th of June 1832 That he entered the Service of the United States under the following named Officers and served as herein stated. I think sometimes in the year 1775 I came to the County of Tryon now Rutherford County N. Carolina at that time we all was obliged to take sides. I then became a Volunteer in the Service of the United States under Captain Moffett commanded by Col. Neil as an Indian Spy and a Rainger some times on horse back and sometimes on foot ? ? in this service we was called ? ? a Tour at the Snow Camps we was Two months on that Tour we Drove them from their positions at that place. I then Returned home I then joined service Captain Leonard Marbury Troop of Horse in the State of Georgia to go against the Indians we had an engagement with them on the Oconee River where we drove them from the position This was a three month tour I then returned home and in the winter of 1779. I went to the Seige of Charleston under Cole Hampton and served as Waggon master in the Continental line for Two months and Returned home in May 1780 I made a Tour under Col" Hampton as Sergant Majr in persute of the British Tories we had an engagment on Pacolate [i.e., Pacolet] River I was again engaged in persute of CornWallis when he Marched through N Carolina I was then under Captain Simons we went in persute of them as far as Salisbury and on to the South Yadkin from that place we Returned home he had many difficult ? to encounter we lived in a frontier Country in ? ? ? The Indians on one side the British on the other that ? that was on the Liberty side was ready at every ? to go [rest is missing from my file].
