Rutherford County, NC - Charles Lewis Revolutionary War Pension, 1845 ~~~~~~~~~~ December 13, 1924 Jeanette Biggs Oxford, North Carolina Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W.4012 it appears that Charles Lewis was born May 26, 1761. While living in Rutherford County, North Carolina, he enlisted July 20, 1778 and served nine months as a private in Captain Hogg's Company, Tenth North Carolina Regiment. He enlisted December 15, or 20, 1779, served as Sergeant in Captain Robert Silkey's Company, Colonel Andrew Hampton's North Carolina Regiment and was discharged March 24, 1780. He enlisted in July 1781, served as first Sergeant in Captain John McLane's Company of Horse and was discharged in April 1782. He was in many skirmishes with the Indians. Soldier married October 26, 1786 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, Elizabeth Russell born May 21, 1770. He died December 13, 1833 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. His widow Elizabeth was allowed pension on her application executed November 11, 1845 wile a resident of said Rutherford County.
