   AN IMPUDENT HORSE THIEF -- THOMAS A. REESE of Rutherford County stole a 
mule from a man by the name of ALLEN and made his escape into Tennessee but 
was followed, brought back, and placed in the jail at Ruthersfordton, and he 
wrote on the wall the following, "One day after date, I promise to break this 
jail and steal ALLEN'S other mule," and the sequel shows he did. -- Iredell
