The Raleigh Standard, June 8, 1859
   DIED, at his residence in Rutherford County, on the 23rd ult., GARLAND 
DICKERSON, aged 82 years one month and 21 days.
   The deceased was born in the County of Caswell, and a short time previous 
to the year 1800, he removed to Tennessee, then a territory. He did not remain 
there long, but returned to his native State in company with VARDY MCBEE, a 
well known citizen of Greenville, S. c. He settled in Lincolnton, but did not 
remain there long, when he removed to Rutherford, where he lived till the day 
of his death. He was buried with Masonic honors in the villiage of 
Ruthersfordton, and the large concourse of citizens, both old and young, who 
attended his funeral will attest the respect in which he was held in the 
community where he had lived for more than 50 years.
