Walton, of billious fever, aged 23 years; son of Thomas Walton, Esq. of Morganton, N.C. [Obituary notice deferred until next week.] North Carolina Spectator and Western Advertiser Rutherfordton, North Carolina Friday Morning Sep 3, 1830 Died, in this place, on Wednesday, the 25th ult. Doct. John Alfred Walton, of Congestive Bilious Fever, which, after confining him twelve days with fluctuating degrees of violence, at length baffled every effort of medical skill, and terminated the painful solicitudes of friendship and affection; his remains were interred in the graveyard at Morganton, on Friday morning, amidst a numerous concourse of those who had been the companions of his infancy and the friends of his manhood. With the exception of a few transient intervals, Doct. W. retained during the whole period of his confinement the possession of an unclouded intellect, and under a deep rooted consciousness of impending dissolution, sustained himself with a composure and resignation, which strikinly developed the fortitude of his character, and affords to his friends the cheering hope that the darkness of the tomb was illumined with visions of a bright and glorious reversion hereafter. Rarely have the ravages of death in the selection of their victim, made a more touching appeal to every generoussentiment of the heart, or afforded more appalling evidence of the uncertainty of life and the vanity of all human expectation; but yesterday he was among us in the pride of youthful health and vigor, -- respected by all, -- cherished by a numerous circle of personal friends, -- an object of devoted fondness to his relatives, and just entering on the successful prosecution of a profession, of which he seemd destined to become a distinguished ornament; -- to-day "the places that once knew him know him no more forever", could the wishes of friends, -- the ardent prayers of dearest kindred, -- could a vigorous constitution, and prosepects of a life of unclouded enjoyment have guaranteed the boon of exisctence, he had not been plucked from us in the flower of his youth, -- in the budding of his honors and his usefulness. The youthful associates who survive him may profit by the example he has set them, of untiring application to the pursuits of his profession, -- of temperance in all his habits, -- of the stictest morality in his conduct, and of that suavity of manner and benevolence of heart,-- that sensibility to the afflictions of others, which so eminently adorned his professional character. May He "who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb," minister of his abundant consolations to the afflicted parents and relatives he has left behind him; it is but natural they should lament the loss of a son so gifted by nature, -- so fitted by his numerous virtues and accomplishments to gladden a parents heart, and that they should weep over the grave which encloses the remains of so much anxious solicitude, and expectations so justly and so fondly cherished; but when the first painful burst of parental anquish shall have subsided, and they shall have ceased to feel so acutely the pangs of separation, they will submit with unmurmuring resignation and sustain themselves with the cherishing hope, that while the mortal vestments of him they loved are mingling with the clods of the valley, his emancipated spirit has arisen to the bosom of that God who, in the beautiful language of inspiration "chaseneth who he loveth."
