Dawson.  He says agreeable to the article when William Dawson was born to him, he wants William Dawson to have 'Fly' the sorrel mare. He says Wm. Dawson has three head of cattle of his own, one cow and one heifer and one yearling. He says he wants Isaac his son and William Dawson his grandchild to have the land at the death of their mother.  Thomas X Hutchins (his mark) Wt (Witnesses) William Proctor (present)      James Getty (present) {possibly 'Guffey' see transcribers note} State of North Carolina Rutherford County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions,  Feb ? 1844 The above instrument was presented in Jan. for probate as the last will and testament of Thomas Hutchins and the subscribing witnesses thereto - to wit,  Wm Proctor and James Getty {Guffey}. Upon being? no one provided the notice of? executors of the same it was therefore ordered to be recorded and filed away in this office.  Wm Logan, clk (Clerk)" Additional Comments: Transcription - 1/7/2010 by RZ {Transcribers note: - The book "William Hutchins of Carolina" by Jack Randolph Hutchins states that the 2 witnesses were William Proctor, and Samuel Guffey. Though the handwriting is at times difficult to read, the first name of the second witness is without doubt 'James'. The last name appears to be 'Getty' both times it is recorded, but no James Getty is listed as a resident of Rutherford in the 1830 census. There is however a James Guffey listed in that census, of approximately the same age as Thomas, as well as William Proctor who was Thomas' relative. - RZ] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/rutherford/wills/hutchins1289wl.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ncfiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
