Sampson County, NC - Henry King Cemetery The Henry King Cemetery of Sampson County, NC (Also known as The King Cemetery in "The Historical Records Survey of NC", circa 1939.) The Henry King Cemetery is located near the junction of Keener and Panhandle Roads on property owned by Ronnie and Jane Brewer, both of whom are connected in some way to the Henry King for whom this cemetery is named. The cemetery is about 7 miles east of Clinton off Highway 403 as you travel toward the Town of Faison. Turn left on Keener Road and travel about 2 miles and the cemetery will be located a short distance off the right side of the road. Note; the directions given in The Historical Records Survey of North Carolina compiled in the 1930’s are no longer accurate as, evidently, there have been some changes in Keener Road since that survey was done. Of W. L. & Stella King). There were, however, quite a few gravestones which were found in this cemetery on my (RMK) visit on 11 March 2009 which were not included in the 1939 Survey and they are; Arkanses King, Scenia Cathern Bell, Virginia Boyette, C. T. Boyette, Julia C. and George W. King, Dollie King Thornton, P. E. Thornton, Julia Bell, and Susan Jane Stith King. Although there are several gravestones which are badly damaged, this old cemetery is in very good condition and it certainly warrants a visit for those persons researching the descendants of Michael and Elizabeth Hare King of Nansemond County, Virginia (circa 1630-1700). The original survey of this cemetery was compiled by Mrs. Thyra R. Ussery for the “Historical Records Survey of North Carolina” in 1939. The survey listed above was compiled by Randolph M. King of Wayne County (NC) on 11 March 2009 with the assistance of Ronnie and Jane Brewer. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
