He was the twin brother of John "Big John" Autry. Daniel was married to Rebecca E Honeycutt and the had 12 children. He was married second to Charlotte Ann Williams and they had 4 children. After Daniel returned from the Civil War he started the famous Autry Bros. Mill that became known all over the south for its corn meal and grits. Autry Bros. merged with Houses Mill in 1967 to become House-Autry Mill which is still in business in Four Oaks, N. C.
