Bizzell & Virginia Bizzell 14 Aug 1805 - Deed from Job Hudson to Thomas Hudson for 362 acres was proved by Naman Cartie. 12 Nov 1805 - Ordered Thomas Hall be overseer of the road from Bearskin to Owen Owens path and the following hands work: Thomas Hudson, others. 12 Feb 1806 - Deed from Thomas Hudson to Needham Sikes for 265 acres was proved by Thomas Vann. 9 Feb 1807 - Ordered that Jonathan Cooper be overseer of the road in the room of Jeremiah Simmons and that Thomas Hudson & others work under him. 15 Feb 1809 - River workers: Ordered Ezekiel Nealms be overseer of the river in the room of John Peterson and that Thomas Hudson & others work under him. 9 May 1809 - Joseph Hearn vs Jordan Coats: Constable Furney Westbrook returned an execution levied on the lands of the defendant there being no other property to be found. Ordered the clerk issue an order of sale. 9 May 1809 - Deed from Matthew Stevens to Jobe Hudson for 200 acres was proved by Richard Herring. ============= Sampson County, NC Court Minutes, 1810-1820 by Oscar M. Morris produced in court the last will and testament of Benett Smith which was admitted to probate by the oaths of witnesses Thomas Hudson and John I. Morris. 21 May 1811 - Jurors: Thomas Hudson, others, be jurors to attend August Court. 22 May 1811 - Deeds: Jonathan Marley to Thomas Hudson for 90 acres proved by James Williamson. 21 Aug 1811 - Deed from Willis West Sr. to Wm. Coates for 50 acres was acknowledged. 17 Feb 1812 - Hudson orphan: Ordered that Frederick Hudson, about 15, an orphan of Joseph Hudson dec'd, be bound unto John Owens until he is 21 and learn him the art and mystery of the saddler trade and learn him to read and write. 18 May 1812 - Overseers: Ordered that Joel Hudson be overseer of the road in the room of Curtis Lee and that the usual hands work under him. 17 May 1813 - Overseers: Ordered Moses Westbrook be overseer of the road in the room of Joel Hudson and that the usual hands work under him. 20 Feb 1815 - Overseers: Ordered that William Hudson be overseer of the road in the room of Willis West Jr. and that the usual hands work under him. 20 Feb 1816 - Joyner estate: Joel Hudson prayed administration on the estate of Isham Joyner dec'd. Bond was 100 pounds. Securities were Constable Isaac Strickland and Matthew Strickland. 20 Feb 1816 - Joyner estate: Ordered that Joel Hudson, administrator, have leave to sell the personal property of Isham Joyner dec'd, agreeable to law. 20 May 1816 - Joyner estate: Joel Hudson, administrator, returned an inventory and account of sales of Isham Joyner dec'd. 21 May 1816 - Overseers: Ordered that Levy Dudley be overseer of the road in the room of Wm. Hudson and that the usual hands work under him. 17 Feb 1818 - Joyner Estate: Joel Hudson returned a settlement, with him as executor, on the estate of Isham Joyner dec'd. 25 Feb 1820 - Roads and hands divided: Ordered the road and lands that John Raynor commands as overseer be divided and that Handy West be overseer from the Seven Mile Swamp to the Great Coharie, and that all hands belonging to said road below Seven Mile work under said West except Joel Hudson and James Hudson. 25 Feb 1820 - Deeds: Attorney John Dickson to Wm. Hudson for 100 acres was acknowledged. 16 May 1820 - Hudson bound: Ordered that Malcolm Hudson, an orphan boy about 7 years old, be bound unto Frederick Hudson who shall instruct him in the art and mystery of a shoemaker and give him 12 months schooling. ============= Sampson County, NC Court Minutes, 1820-1830 by Oscar M. Hudson, others. 23 Feb 1821 - Joel Hudson to William Hudson for 43 acres was acknowledged. 18 Nov 1822 - Joel Hudson Jr. be overseer of the road in the room of Reubin Bass with the usual hands to work. 17 Feb 1823 - Overseer: Ordered John Wilson be overseer of the road from the run of Little Coharie to the Crossroads in stead of Joel Hudson, and Wm. Hudson, Dempsey Hayes, Henry Williams and William Dickson work under him. 21 Feb 1823 - Soasby Johnson to Frederick Hudson for 49 acres proved by E. Herring. 17 Nov 1823 - Ordered John Ward Jr. be overseer of the road from Johnston County line passing the plantation whereon Joseph Blackman, dec'd, formerly lived to a small branch crossing the road and by the late dwelling house of Alex Fleming, dec'd, Gen. Harry Bryan's hands, John Hudson, James Hudson, Ben Hudson, others. 20 Nov 1823 - Ordered James Hudson Jr. be overseer in the room of Joel Hudson and the usual hands work. 21 Aug 1824 - Deeds: Allen West to James Hudson for 114 acres proved by Willis West. 17 Nov 1824 - Joel Hudson and wife to Reddick Holley for 100 acres was proved. 24 Feb 1825 - Ordered James Ward Jr. be overseer of the road leading from Mrs. Fleming's to the Johnston County line and the usual hands work under him: John Hudson, James Hudson, Benjamin Hudson, others. 24 Feb 1825 - Overseers: Ephraim Johnson be overseer of that part of the road from the middle of Taylor's Bridge to New Hanover line, it being the part that is called "one road to Long Creek" and the usual hands work under him: Alfred Hudson, others. 17 May 1825 - Ordered James Hudson be overseer of the road from Goshen Swamp to the widow Blackman's place and that he keep up all footways over all swamps and hand rails on all hollow bridges. 22 Aug 1826 - Ordered Pharoah Lee be overseer of the road from Big Coharie to the Seven Mile Swamp and the usual hands work under him: Bejamin Hudson, others. 20 Nov 1826 - Jurors: Ordered the following persons be jurors to Feb Term 1827: Joel Hudson, others. 21 Nov 1826 - Deed: Andrew Bass to John Hudson for 100 acres proved by John Raynor. 19-23 Feb 1827 - Grand Jurors: The sheriff returned the venire and the following persons were drawn, sworn and charged as grand jurors for this term, viz, Joel Hudson Sr., others. 21 May 1827 - Jurors for next August term of this court: James Hudson, others. 23 Feb 1828 - State by Ama Hudson vs James Hudson, defendant discharged from find and cost. 18 May 1829 - Last will and testament of Wm Hudson offered for probate and proved. 18 Aug 1829 - Account of sale of property of Wm Hudson dec'd was returned. Total $49.76. 17 Nov 1829 - Account of sale of property of Wm Hudson dec'd was returned by the executors amounting to $286.13, corn and fodder being unsold. ============= Sampson County, NC Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions - NC Archives February Term 1831 A deed from Asher Bizzell to John Hudson for one hundred and forty seven and three fourth acres of land was proven by John Rainor and ordered to be registered. February Term 1831 A deed from John Hudson to Robert Wilson for one hundred acres of land was acknowledged in open court and ordered to be registered. November Term 1831 A deed from Whitfield Thornton and Ferebe Thornton to Benjamin Hudson for one hundred and fifty three acres of land which was proven by the oath of Thomas Thornton Sr. at May Term of Sampson County Court. February Term 1835 No. 32 - State to the use of Ann Blackwell vs Blackman Lee, James Hudson and Loyd West - Sci Fa Bastardy - Settled. August Term 1837 Whereas Robert Denning produced a deed in court made to him from Joel Hudson and Elizabeth Hudson his wife and procurred the same to be proved by the oath of Powel Blackman a subscribing witness. November Term 1838 A deed from Alfred and Malcom Hudson to Bizzell Johnson for a tract of land was proven in court by the oath of Nathan Johnson who proved the hand writing of A. Hudson one of the makers of the deed and also the hand of Charley B Johnson, a witness to sd deed and that they live beyond the limits of the state. Ordered sd deed be registered. August Term 1845 No 4 Appearance Docket John Hudson vs Needham Pipkin & James A. Bizzell Levy on Land In this case the following warrant with the proceedings thereon was returned to court Vizt: To any lawful officer to execute and return within thirty days (Sundays excepted) You are hereby commanded to take the bodies of Needham Pipkin and James Bizzell if to be found in your county and have them before me or some other justice of the peace in and for said county to answer: John Hudson in a plea of debt of one hundred dollars interest and by former judgment. Herein fail not. Given under my hand and seal this 19th day of July 1845. George H. Daughtry JP Endorsed, executed, Ivey Lee Con's July 19th 1845 Judgment against the Deft's by former judgment for the sum of one hundred dollars and int. from 2nd January 1841 until paid with cost 8/ former costs. Peace No goods or chattels to be found by me Ivey Lee Cons't then levied on the following tract of land as the property of Needham Pipkin containing 300 acres more or less adjoining the lands of Moses Cox, John Hudson and others, and lying on the south west side of Kill Swamp. July 28th 1845 Ivey Lee Cons't It appearing to the court that due notice has been given of the levy on defendants land. On motion it is ordered by the court that an order issue to the Sheriff to sell the lands levied on to satisfy plaintiffs debt, interest and costs and also that justices judgment be affirm'd as a judgment of this court. May Term 1849 Ordered that Raiford Blackwell be bound as apprentice to Joel Hudson until he attains the age of twenty one years and said Hudson to give him twelve months schooling and learn him the business of a Farmer. May Term 1849 Ordered by the court that Joel G. Hudson be appointed guardian to Spicey Jane Hudson and Ferebe Ann Hudson his children by entering into a bond of five hundred dollars with Joel Hudson, Silas Bagget, Wright Warren and Louis Tew Jr. as sureties. May Term 1851 A deed from Joel Hudson to William H. Hudson for two tracts of land containing one hundred thirty two and one half acres of land was duly proven in open court by G. H. Daughtery who was a subcribing witness thereto and it was ordered to be recorded. Nov Term 1858 H. H. West vs Wm. H. Hudson - Ca Sa - Wm. H. Hudson appeared in open court and the oath of insolvency is administered to him and thereupon on motion his is discharded. Judgment Accordingly. February Term 1861 Ordered that John Hudson guardian to Polly Hudson have further time to make his return. February Term 1861 State vs Samuel Hudson - A & B (assault and battery) - The defendant submits and is fined 5 cents and costs judgment accordingly. February Term 1861 It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that due notice of the levy on his land had been given to Joel Hudson more than five days before the setting of this court by notice being proven and filed. It is ordered and decreed that the magistrates jusgment be affirmed and the judgment of this court for the sum of twenty four dollars with interest from the 24th Nov'r 1860 and costs. May Term 1861 State vs Samuel Hudson - A & B (assualt and battery) - The defendant called and failed judgment Ni Si against him and his sureties. May Term 1861 State vs Rich'd Warren, J. M. Hudson - Affray - J. M. Hudson and W. R. Holmes recognized in the sum of two hundred dollars for the appearance of J. M. Hudson at the next term of this court. Richard Warren and W. R. Holmes recognized in the sum of two hundred dollars for the personal appearance of Richard Warren at the next term of this court. November Term 1861 State vs Richard Morris and J. M. Hudson - Affray - Defandants submit and fined February Term 1862 Thos. M. Lee vs Joel Hudson - Levy on Land - Notice served February Term 1865 State vs Jarman J. Hudson, A & B, defendant submits and is fined $50 and costs. February Term 1866 State vs Josiah Hudson and J. J. Hudson - A & B - Guilty Fine each one five cents costs. November Term 1866 Ordered that James Marshburn be appointed Overseer of public road from New road near Susan Stith's to R.B.W. Bryant by the way of Mrs. Maria Hudson's house. November Term 1866 Ordered that Uriah West be appointed Overseer of the road from Seven mile swamp to Peter Jackson's X roads and work the following hands, viz: Holly Hudson, Thos. J. Hudson, W. H. Hudson, Pharaoh Hudson, Sam'l Hudson, J. G. Coats and others.
