Court records below are for his son Michael King Jr who lived in Sampson and died in 1811 and his land on Hoods Swamp was divided between his children. ========== Sampson County, NC Court Minutes, 1784-1800 by Oscar M. Bizzell 22 Jun 1784 - The following persons are appointed Jurors at next court: Stephen King, Michael King, others. 20 Sep 1784 - Juror Excused - Michael King came into court and was excused from serving as Juror at the present court. 26 Oct 1784 - Deeds recorded: Michael King to John Keen proved by Wm. Armstrong. 21 Dec 1784 - Guardian - David Slocum came into court and chose Samuel Slocum as his guardian, whereupon ordered that Samuel Slocum enter into bond in the sum of 200 pounds, the said Samuel Slocum offering for his securities William Beck and Michael King, who were approved. 21 Jun 1785 - Estate of John Bush - Ordered that Michael King, Stephen King, others, divide the estate of John Bush, dec'd, agreeable to law amongst his representatives and report their proceedings to next court. 22 Sep 1785 - Jurors - The following persons are appointed jurors to attend and serve during the next term to be held for this county on the third Monday in December next, to wit: Michael King, Stephen King, others. 22 Mar 1786 - Court appointed Michael King and Stephen King for Capt. Fort's Company. (part of this paragraph not copied) 16 Aug 1786 - Jurors next term: Michael King, others. 16 Aug 1786 - Jurors - The following persons are appointed jurors to attend next term: Michael King, others. 16 Aug 1786 - King's Estate - Edward Byrd, who came into court and claimed to administration with the will of Michael King, late of Bertie county, deceased, on the behalf of Mary, the wife of the said Edward, and the daughter of the said Michael, resigns his right of administration aforesaid unto Thomas Gray which said Gray comes into court and offers for his securities Curtis Ivey and John Fort who are approved of, and entered into bond in the sum of 4000 pounds. Ordered that letters of administration be issued according to the above order and resignation. 13 Nov 1786 - Venire - The Sheriff returned the venire issued from the last court duly executed and the following persons were summoned: Michael King, others. 13 Nov 1786 - Grand jury sworn: The grand jury being drawn, impaneled and sworn, retire: Michael King, forman, others. 14 Feb 1787 - New Road: On the petition of sundry persons, ordered that a road be laid off from the old or former muster ground at the corner of Colonel Sampson's fence in the most direct and convenient way to cross the Six Runs at the place called Easom's ford, now John Spiller's: Michael King, Roger Snell, others. Henry King, Constable, summon the above mentioned jury to meet agreeable to the direction of John Fort, Esquire. 15 Aug 1787 - Overseer: Ordered that Michael King be Overseer of the road in the room of Jesse Oates. 14 Nov 1787 - Grist Mill: Petition of James Spiller praying an order of this court to build a public grist mill on the Beaver Dam on his own land joining Thomas Coggin's or Michael King's land and that notice be issued to Thomas Coggin and Michael King to attend at the next court to show cause, if any, they or either of them have, why the said James Spiller should not build the said mill. 12 Feb 1788 - Child: William Wellsbee tenders Michael King and Orson Bell as sureties for the maintenance of the bastard child by his begotten on the body of Rhody Turbeville. Ordered they enter into bond in the sum of 250 pounds and bond was filed. 12 Feb 1788 - Grist Mill: Petition of Thomas Gray praying to erect a grist mill on Young's Swamp, it is ordered that Simon McLendon, Michael King, Stephen King, Roger Snell lay off one acre of land of Thomas Gray on west side of Young's Swamp. 12 Feb 1788 - Deeds: A deed from Jean Ward to Michael King was proved and ordered registered. 13 Feb 1788 - Deeds: A deed from Thomas Coggin to Michael King was proved and ordered registered. 13 Aug 1788 - Jurors: Ordered that the Sheriff summon Michael King, Stephen King, others, to appear before the next court then and there to serve as Jurors during the said term. 10 Nov 1788 - Venire: The Sheriff then returned the venire issued from last court duly executed, which is as follows: Michael King, Stephen King, others. 13 May 1789 - Overseer: Ordered that Michael King be Overseer of the road in the room of Jesse Oates. 14 May 1789 - Jurors: Ordered the Sheriff summon the following persons: Michael King, others, to attend as jurors next court. 10 Nov 1789 - Slave Freed: On motion of Michael King, ordered that Negro Robin, a man slave, the property of the said Michael King, for sundry and meritorious services heretofore done and performed for his said master, is hereby declared to be free, agreeable to an Act of Assembly made and provided. 9 Feb 1790 - Deed: A deed from Michael King to James Spiller was proved and ordered registered. 12 Nov 1793 - Deed from John Snell to Michael King for several tracts was proved by oath of William King. Ordered to be registered. 11 Feb 1794 - New Road: Ordered that the order made last court to lay off a road from Easom's Ford to Sampson Court House be renewed by adding Michael King, others, in the room of William Williams and Jesse Bell. 14 Feb 1794 - Jurors: Ordered the following persons: Michael King, others, attend May court as jurymen. 14 May 1794 - Road Work: Ordered that Michael King's hands, Willis Gooden's and John McCullen's hands work on the old road from Young's Swamp to the forks of the road below Simon McClendon's, and that Michael King oversee said hands. 12 Aug 1795 - Jurors: Ordered that Michael King, William King, others attend at November term next as jurymen. 11 Nov 1795 - Deed from Michael King to William Williams for 472 acres was acknowledged. 9 Feb 1796 - Godwin Estate - Ordered that Steven King, others, be a committee divide the lands of Abia Godwin, dec'd, who had a right of dower among the lawful representatives of Jacob Godwin, dec'd. 10 Feb 1796 - Deeds: John Blackman to Stephen King for 300 acres acknowledged. Henry Duacks to Stephen King for 100 acres proved by John Brewer. 12 May 1796 - Deeds: Mary & Joseph Turbeville to Stephen King proved by Henry King. Michael King to William Williams acknowledged. 10 Aug 1796 - Deed: Thomas Ivey, Sheriff, to Michael King was acknowledged. 15 Nov 1796 - Blackman Estate - Ordered that William King, Stephen King, others, be a committee to examine the accounts of Stephen Blackman, dec'd, and make return to the next court. 17 Nov 1796 - Jurors - Ordered the following persons be summoned to attend the next term as jurors: Stephen King, William King, Michael King, others for Oates' District. 14 Feb 1797 - Grand Jury impaneled - William King, Stephen King, others, sworn and retired to business. 14 Feb 1797 - King Will - Stephen King produced to court the last will and testament of Henry King, dec'd, which was admitted to probate. Ordered that testamentary letters be issued. William King, Stephen King & Jinnet King came into court and qualified as executors of the estate. 15 Feb 1797 - King Estate - Ordered that the executors of Henry King, dec'd sell such part of the perishable property as the will directs. Also ordered that Joab Blackman, Josiah Blackman and Hardy Holmes be a committee to put Jennit King, widow of Henry King, dec'd, in full possession of her dower. 16 Feb 1797 - King Estate - Ordered the sheriff summons a jury of good and lawful men to lay off the dower of land for Jennit King, widow of Henry King, dec'd, agreeable to law. 9 May 1797 - Blackman Estate - Stephen King returned into court an account current of the estate of Stephen Blackman, dec'd, which was filed. Stephen King returned into court the dower for Jinnet King, widow of Henry King, dec'd, which was filed. 14 Aug 1797 - Road Work - Ordered that Michael King Jr., others, and their hands work under John Wester, overseer. 16 Aug 1797 - Deeds: William McLam to William King proved by James Ratliff; John Snell to James Marley proved by Michael King; James Devane to William King proved by Timothy Williams. 16 Nov 1797 - Kenan Estate - Cash paid for William Kenan's note to Michael King = 11/2/-. 14 Nov 1798 - Jurors - Ordered that Michael King, others, be jurymen at the February term of court next. 15 May 1799 - Patrol - Ordered the following persons be appointed patrols in Capt. Faison's Company, Michael King, others. 14 Aug 1799 - Michael King vs George Jackson: An ordered sale to issue to sell the lands of the defendant as the law directs. 13 May 1800 - Patrols - Ordered that Michael King, others, be patrols in Capt. Bizzell 10 Nov 1800 - Jurymen appointed: Michael King Sr., others. 13 May 1801 - Division of slaves: On the petition of Benjamin Carr and Anne his wife, ordered that Michael King and others be appointed a committee to divide the two Negroes. 10 Aug 1801 - Snell estate: Ordered that James Marley, William Thompson and Michael King be a committee to settle the estate of Roger Snell, dec'd. 10 Aug 1801 - Slaves sold: A bill of sale from Edward Byrd to Thomas Byrd for a Negro girl called Silvaney was proved by Michael King. 11 Nov 1801 - Snell estate: Ordered that Michael King, James Marley and William Thompson be a committee to settle and adjust the papers of Roger Snell, dec'd with his executors and report to next court. 11 Feb 1802 - Fort estate: Ordered Stephen King, James Marley and Michael King be a committee to examine the John Fort, dec'd, papers and report to next court. 1 Nov 1802 - Snell estate: The committee appointed to settle the estate of Roger Snell reported the amount of estate is 151 pounds, 16 shillings, and further sayeth the executor has overpaid the sum for debts equal to 49 pounds, 7 shillings, 10 pence. Vouchers show that John Snell, executor, is due the sum of 15 pounds. Signed Michael King, William Thompson, J. Marley. 1 Aug 1803 - Publick ordinary: Mr. Michael King came into court and prayed to leave to keep a publick ordinary at his own house. Bond was set at 500 pounds. His security was James Kenan. 14 Aug 1804 - Turn the road: Ordered Stephen King, Michael King, others, be a jury to lay off and turn the road near James Manley's, and report to next court. 13 Nov 1804 - Road work: Ordered John Fellows, John Eason, James Cobb, James Moore and William Beck work as additional hands on the road under Michael King. 11 Feb 1806 - Turn the road: Ordered Michael King be allowed to turn the main road from the mouth of his lane, a direct course into the same road near where Willis Godwin formerly lived. 13 May 1806 - A deed of gift from James Oates to Michael King Jr. for two Negroes named Charity and Derry was acknowledged. 12 May 1807 - Poll keepers: Ordered the following persons be poll keepers: John Ingram, James Marley and Michael King Jr. for Capt. Marley's Company. 10 Aug 1807 - Ordered that Michael King Jr., others attend as jurors at November Term of court next. 11 Aug 1807 - A bill of sale from Michael King Sr. to Ephraim Bradshaw for a Negro woman and two children, viz. Hannah and children China and Mariah was proved by John Oates. 10 Nov 1807 - A title from Edward Byrd to Nathan King of Cumberland County for his right and title to a certain number of Negroes willed to his wife Mary Byrd by her father Michael King was proved by Gabriel King. (This Michael King died in Cumberland County before 26 Jan 1785) 18 May 1808 - Grand jury: The grand jury being impaneled, to wit. Michael King, others were sworn and received their charge and retired to business. 10 Aug 1808 - New road: Ordered that a road be opened from Snell's Race Path to the county line near Mrs. Clark's and William Beck. The following hands will assist to open this road: Michael King, others. 16 May 1809 - Slaves sold: A bill of sale from James Blackman to Michael King for a woman named Easter was acknowledged. 12 Feb 1810 - Jurymen: Ordered that Stephen King, Michael King, others be jurors to attend at May term next. ========== Sampson County, NC Court Minutes, 1810-1820 by Oscar M. Bizzell and Virginia L. Bizzell 20 May 1811 - Mrs. Salley King and Nathan King came into court and prayed administration on the estate of Michael King dec'd and it was granted. Securities were William King Sr. and Gabriel Holmes. Mrs. Sally King and Nathan King came into court and was duly qualified as administratrix and admin'r to the above dec'd estate. It was ordered that John Fellow, James Marley, Jethro Oates and Joseph Darden be a committee to lay off one year's provisions for Mrs. Sally King widow of Michael King. 20 May 1811 - Darden estate: Michael King returned into court an inventory of the estate of Jesse Darden dec'd. (**It is not known who this Michael was and may be mentioned in some of the entries above as "Jr.") 19 Aug 1811 - King estate: Wm. King returned into court an inventory and account of sale on the estate of Michael King dec'd. 19 Aug 1811 - John Fellow returned into court a report of one year's provision laid off and set apart for Mrs. Salley King widow of Michael King dec'd. Report filed. 18 Nov 1811 - Ordered that the Sheriff convene a jury of good and lawful men unconnected with the parties to lay off a dower of land to Sally King widow of Michael King dec'd and report to next court. 18 Nov 1811 - King estate: The prayer of William Blackman is granted. Ordered that Jethro Oates, James Marley, James Moore, Joseph Darden and William Tuton be a committee to divide the lands of Michael King dec'd which he died seized and possessed of, among his lawful representatives, and that Benjamin Phillips be surveyor, and report their proceedings to next court. 17 Feb 1812 - Benj'n Philips returned into court a report of division of the lands of Michael King dec'd among his lawful representatives. Ordered that the said surveyor be allowed the sum of twenty dollars for his services 10 days and in dividing said lands. 19 May 1812 - King estate: Jonathan Carr returned into court a report of the division of the Negroes of Michael King dec'd. 19 Nov 1816 - King estate: Ordered that James Frederick, Jonathan Carr and John Fellow be a committee to settle the estate of Michael King dec'd with the administrators. 21 Nov 1816 - King estate: James Frederick, one of the committee appointed to settle the estate of Michael King dec'd, returned their report. 21 Feb 1820 - King estate: Ordered that Jonathan Moseley and Thomas Craddock and Alex. Fleming be a committee to settle and divide the estate of Michael King dec'd with Nathan King, Administrator, among the heirs of the dec'd.
