NC 1785-1824 C.R. 087 927.1 The wardens for the county of Sampson, that Recording to adjournment the 15th Day of May 1804. Ann Royall was bid off by Holly Strickland at L 11.19. William Crus was bid off by William Strickland at 9-15. May 4, 1805 Ann Ryals set up for the term of 12 months and was bid off by Holly Strickland. William Scenes set up for 12 months and was bid off by William Strickland. William Davis bid off by Holly Strickland. Aug. term 1816 Ordered that Thomas Strickland, be allowed the sum of $30 for keeping Betsy Fadger, 30 days and burying her in the year 1816. Nov. term 1816 Ordered that Jesse Strickland, be allowed the sum of $3 for carrying an infant to Johnston Co. Feb. 1819 Ordered that Jesse Strickland be allowed the sum of $5 for keeping Delila Jones one month and caring her to Sampson Co. Court House in the year 1819. MY NOTE: The saying "was bid off" means some one that was living in the Poor House was bid for work for 1 day or so.
