C018: John W. Carroll sells 73 acres in Sampson County, NC to Arch Monk, 1848. 

NC State Archives, Registered April 1, 1848, p. 98. 

John W. Carroll and Wife Deed to A. Monk 73 acres.
This indenture made this [left blank] day of February in the year of our Lord
1848 between John W. Carrol and Elizabeth Carrol wife of said John both of the
County of Sampson & State of N. Carolina of the first part and Arch Monk of the
said county & State of the other part.  Wherewith that for & in consideration of
the sum of two hundred fifty dollars by the said A. Monk to the said John W.
Carrol at & before the signing and sealing of this deed the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged have granted bargained & sold & by those present do grant
bargain, sell, release unto the said A. Monk his heirs and assigns a certain
tract or parcel of land situated lying & being in the County aforesaid on the
south side of Kill P. Swamp.  Beginning at a black gum in said swamp & then down
the various courses of said swamp to the mouth of Joiner Branch thence up the
meanders of said branch to a sweet gum near the head thence So 46 [ & ] E 144
with [    ] boxes line to a stake on A. Monks line thence with an agreed line to
North 30 poles thence N&E 33 poles to Robt Joiner’s corner thence N 46 & W with
Joiner’s line to the beginning containing about seventy three acres more or less
with all & [      ] the aforesaid lands and promises with all the appurtances
thereto belonging [Can’t read the rest very well].  It is signed by John W.
Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll made her mark.
