Sampson County, NC - LEWIS COGDELL Deed to MARSHAL KORNEGAY, 1834 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sampson County, NC Deed Book 23, pages 451-452: LEWIS COGDELL Deed to MARSHAL KORNEGAY, 1834 This indenture made the 15th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty three between Lewis Cogdell or the State of North Carolina & County of Wayne of the one part & Marshal Kornegay of the County of Sampson & State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth, that I the said Lewis Cogdell for & in consideration of the sum of three thousand dollars to me in hand paid by him the sd. Marshal Kornegay before signing & delivering of these presents the receipt & payment whereof is hereby acknowledged, that the sd. Lewis Cogdell have bargained & sold unto him the sd. Marshal Kornegay his heirs or assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land situate laying & being within the county of Sampson on the North side of the main run of Goshen Swamp and on both sides of the road & Bounded as follows (Viz.) Beginning at Black gum on the main run of Goshen Swamp & runs N 24 1/2 Wt 12 poles to two Black gums on the on the North Edge of Goshen Swamp Craddock corner thence with his line N 67 1/2 Et 214 1/4 poles to a stake in the field on the East side of the road Craddock corner thence with his other line N 21 Wt 102 poles to a pine stump his other corner thence with his other line N 35 Wt 87 poles to two post oaks his & McCullens corner thence with McCullen S line N 50 Et 101 poles to a dead pine & pointers in a pond on the East side of the road thence N 80 Et 44 poles to a post oak thence S 40 E 345 poles to a Hickory (down) & pointers at the corner of the field thence S 14 Wt 91 poles poles to a stake at the main run of Goshen Swamp at Daniel Kornegay's Bridge then up the meanders of the main run of Goshen Swamp to the first Station containing Six Hundred & forty acres. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained land & premises together with all & singular the profits benefits privileges & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto him the sd. Marshal Kornegay, his heirs or assigns forever free & clear from all Incumbrances whatsoever & I the sd. Lewis Cogdell do by these presents covenant promise promise & agree to bind myself my heirs Exrts admrs or assigns to warrant & forever defend the above mentioned land & premises from or against the Lawful claims or claims of any manner of person or persons whatsoever unto him the said Marshal Kornegay his heirs Extrs admrs or assigns forever.
