DARDEN This indenture made and executed this 17th day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Seven by and between Elizabeth A. Huggins and her husband of the County of Sampson and State of North Carolina of the first part and Owen H. Darden and his wife Mary E. Darden Thomas J. Sutton and his wife Henrietta Sutton of the second part of the said County of Sampson and State of North Carolina, Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of twenty five hundred Dollars to the said parties of the first part paid by the said parties of the second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained sold remised released and conveyed and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell remise release and convey unto the said parties of the second part a certain tract of land situate and being in the said County of Sampson in Piney Grove Township and bounded as follows: Beginning on Goshen at the crossing of the Clinton and Goldsboro road & runs thence with said road South 68 W 7 chains then S 26 W 3.75 chains then South 4 1/2 E 38.50 chs then S 12 W 18.50 chains then South 21 West 13 chains then South 39 W 13 chains then South 28 West 7.50 chains then South 5 East 13.50 chains to a stake on the said road thence West 26.75 chains to a fence thence North 38 West about 6 chains to a stake by a Sweet gum thence N 20 East 44.25 chains to a stake on the Newton Grove road then North 16 East 27.50 chains to an old Mulberry tree near a spring then North about 25 chains to the run of said Goshen and thence down the said run to the beginning containing two hundred and fifty acres more or less. To have and to hold the said tract of land together with all the privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said Owen H. Darden and wife Mary E. Darden for and during their joint lives then unto the survivor of them the said Owen and his wife Mary during the life of such survivor, then unto the said Thomas J. Sutton and his said wife Henrietta during their joint lives lives then unto the Survivor of them the said Thomas J. Sutton and wife Henrietta for and during the life of such Survivor then unto the heirs of the said Henrietta Sutton wife of the said Thomas J. Sutton in fee simple. And the said parties of the first part for themselves their heirs executors administrators and assigns do covenant with the said parties of the second part their heirs executors administrators and assigns to forever warrant and defend the title to the said land against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony of which the said Elizabeth A. Huggins and her husband James J. Huggins of the first part and Owen H., Darden and wide Mary E. Darden and Thomas J. J. Huggins the grantees named in the foregoing Deed who acknowledged the due execution thereof by them as their act and deed and thereupon the said Elizabeth A. Huggins being by me privately examined separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same did state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she does still voluntarily consent thereto.
