Sampson County, NC - Stephen King Land Grants, 1784-1805 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sampson County Land Grant Book A Page 44 Stephen King - 100 acres State of North Carolina To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into our Treasury by Stephen King have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Stephen King a tract of land containing one hundred acres lying and being in our said County of Duplin at the head of the Six runs - Beginning at a stake in his own line west side of Grain pond and runs north along his own line one hundred and sixty poles to a water oak thence West one hundred pole to a water oak in a pond thence South one hundred and sixty pole to a pine in his own line thence along the same to the beginning as by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear, together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining To Hold to the said Stephen King his heirs and assigns forever, yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly may from time to time may direct, provided always that the said Stephen King shall cause this Grant to be registered in the Registers office of our said County of Duplin within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect - In Testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our great seal to be hereunto affixed Witness Alexander Martin Esquire our Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Newbern the tenth day of November in the eight year of our Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four Alexander Martin {Seal} By his Excellency’s command J. Clinton Reg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pages 424-425 Stephen King - 100 acres This Grant to Stephen Pipkin for 100 acres of land in the same form as the aforesaid registered Grant in the book pages 1 & 2 only, the person’s name and various courses of the same (to wit) Lying and being in the County of Sampson joining his own line Beginning at his corner a water oak and gum in a pond on Wiggins path that leads to the Meeting House thence west 170 poles to a stake in the main branch of the Six runs, in the center of the water oaks and two gums thence south 130 pole to King’s corner a small pine thence his line east 48 poles to his corner a pine thence his line W 148 poles to his corner in the head of a small branch, then his line E 190 poles to a stake thence his line N 25 W 42 poles to the begining Entered 15th August 1800 Witnesses James Turner Esquire our Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Raleigh the 17th day of December in the 29th year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord 1803 By Com’d Will White Sec’y Entrance money 50£ for 100 acres Registered 25th May 1806 Owen Holmes Reg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pages 427-428 Stephen King – 34 acres This Grant to Stephen King for 34 acres of land is in the same form as the aforesaid registered Grant in this book page 1 & 2 only the person’s name and various courses of the same (to wit) Lying and being in the county of Sampson on the west side of the Simmons swamp, begining at a water oak Stephen King’s corner thence his line N 80 E 28 poles to an oak on the main run of the Simmons swamp thence up said run as it meanders to where the first slough makes out of the east side thence that slough to R. Snell’s corner the course is as follows N 43 E 20 poles thence N 40 poles thence N 32 W 100 poles striking R. Snell’s line to two poles west of the corner, thence from the corner of the Slough N 19 W 44 poles to where the slough comes out of the main run thence up the main run as it meanders to Stephen King’s upper corner, an oak thence his line S 86 180 poles to the begining Sold on the 24th day of March 1804 said land being confiscated as the estate of F.
