Deed Book #0258. Page #0476 – 0482. J. J. Matthews et al to Martha E. King, State of North Carolina, Sampson County. This Deed, made this 10th day of January, 1913, by and between J. J. Matthews and wife, Alice Matthews, of South Boston, Virginia, Eliza O. Spoon and husband, J. M. Spoon, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kate M. Wilson and husband, S. P. Wilson, of Roberson County, State of North Carolina, J. C. Matthews and wife, Mamie A Matthews, of Wayne County, North Carolina, Junia E. Sasser and husband, D. T. Sasser, Bertha S. Matthews, of Durham County, North Carolina, Mattie V. Matthews of Roberson County, North Carolina and Adolphus D. Matthews and wife, Mamie K Matthews, of the city of Danville, State of Virginia, parties of the first part, and Martha E. King party of the second part, of Magnolia, County of Duplin, State of North Carolina, Witnesseth; that the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of Two Thousand Five Hundred ($2500.00) Dollars to them paid by the party of the second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold and convey to said party of the second part, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns a certain tract of land lying in Piney Grove township, Sampson County, State of North Carolina, adjoining the lands of W. G. Lane, Charles S. Hines, Tom Borden and others, and bounded as follows Viz: Beginning at a stake Piney Grove Church, Lane’s Corner on the road and runs his line S. 56 1/2 E. 203 poles to a pine his corner: thence his other line S. 40 W. 170 poles to an Ash on the main run of the Swamp: thence up the said Swamp to the said road: thence with this said road to the beginning. Containing 250 acres more or less. This being the land conveyed by O. M. Matthews to Elizabeth Caroline Matthews by a deed recorded in Book No. 56 at Page 249 Register of Deeds office of Sampson County. Excepting and reserving from the above described land the portion known as the Graveyard, which is located about 100 yards from Piney Grove Church. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land and all privileges and appurtenances thereto, belonging to the said party of the second part, her heirs, and assigns, to their only use and behoof, And the said parties of the first part for themselves their heirs, executors and administrators do covenant to and with the party of the second part, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have the right to convey the same in fee – simple, that the same are free from all encumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever.
