Page #0465. James Matthis Deed To David Matthis___3 tracts. This Indenture made the 20th day of May Anno, Domini, one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight between James Matthis and David Matthis both of the County of Sampson in the State of North Carolina. Witnesseth that said James Matthis for and in consideration of the love and affection he has and do bear toward, his son David Matthis and for his support and advancement and also in consideration of the sum of Ten Dollars to him paid by said David the receipt where of the said James doth hereby acknowledge have given and granted unto said David Matthis, three tracts of land in the County afore said lying on the west side of the Six Runs adjoining each other and said Six Runs occupied at present by said David Matthis. The first of said tracts contains by estimation two hundred and thirty one acres and including a grist mill beginning at the mouth of a branch on the Six Runs near the fish trap stream along said branch and a line of marked trees to a gum on the side of the road, thence ???? the road to Zacheus Matthis’ line thence along said line to a pine, the corner, thence along a line of said James Matthis to Spivas branch, thence down said branch to the Mill Pond, thence along the high water mark on the east side of the pond to the mill and down said branch below the mill to the Six Runs and down that to the Beginning; a second tract containing by estimation three hundred and forty acres and begins at a white oak on the Six Runs thence No. 73 wt. 136 poles to a black jack stump by a little branch, thence No. 17 Et. 158 poles to a Black Jack thence the same course continued to a pine on the east side of the main road thence down the road to a gum in the drain that crosses the road where the plantation, then down said drain or branch along a line of marker trees to a white oak in the river thence down the Six Runs to the beginning. A third tract containing Sixty acres and begins at a white oak the same as the above mentioned survey, thence along a line of the above mentioned tract, to Bill Bl???ates to the corner a stake thence So. 58 Wt. 38 poles to two white oaks and a small Sweet gum on the river bank, thence up the Six Runs as it meanders to the Beginning, which said lands as above described with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining said James Matthis doth by these presents assign convey make ever and confirm unto said David Matthis his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple and free from all encumbrances and said James Matthis makeths doth covenant and agrees to and with said David Matthis and his heirs to warrant the title of said lands against all lawful claims, said James Matthis doth also by these presents and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred Dollars to him paid, sell convey make ever and confirm unto said David Matthis the following negroes Viz. a Negro girl slave of about fifteen years of age named Patsey and a Negro Boy of about fourteen years of age known by the name of Fortune. To have and to hold by said David Matthis his heirs and assigns forever in witness of the above conveyance said James Matthis has hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year above written.
