John Newman moved his family from Sampson County, North Carolina, to Pulaski County, Georgia, between the 1820 and 1830 censuses. This record of John selling his land to his older brother William in 1827 helps to pinpoint the timing of that move a little more precisely. William remained in Sampson, as did many of his descendants, including his son Jacob Newman who died there in 1869. I haven't tried yet to figure out where this land is located, but wouldn't be surprised to find that it was part of land originally purchased by John's grandfather William Newman and father Edward Newman beginning in about 1761 in what was then Duplin County.
