Folio 336 and 337 this thirty First day of August anno domini One thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy One 1771. Pr (?) Thomas Blake Register Additional Comments: William Newman was shown as a Revolutionary War soldier from Duplin County in the listing at this site (NCGenWeb for Sampson County), and it includes the information that he was a Millwright. The information about his occupation and his relationship to Elizabeth (Newman) Kelly and Edward Newman may have come originally from this deed record. This is a record of a deed gift from William to his daughter, Elizabeth, wife of James Kelly. Edward Newman signed as a witness. The record also states that the 150 acres William is giving to Elizabeth and James was a parcel he patented on 22 Dec 1768. He patented another parcel of 300 acres in Duplin that same date. His (presumed) son Edward died in the Revolutionary War, but Edward's widow, Sarah Newman, was shown as owning 300 acres in the state census enumerated in Sampson County between 1784 and 1786. It's likely that Sarah’s 300 acres is the second parcel William Newman patented in 1768, providing further documentary evidence of the tie between William and Edward.
