North Carolina Duplin County To all to Whom these presents come. Know Ye that I William Newman of the County and province aforesaid Greeting Know Ye that I the said William Newman for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty pounds proclamation money to me in hand paid by William Ryal of the County and province aforesaid Planter the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and my self therewith fully satisfied contented and paid and hat Given granted Bargained sold conveyed enfeoffed Confirmed assigned and Set over unto the said William Ryal his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land Containing One Hundred and Fifty acres of Land more or less and Being in the County and province aforesaid and on the East Side of the Beaverdam Swamp Beginning at a line agreed upon thence up the line to the corner thence South 65(?) East along the patent line to the corner thence down the Patent line to a line agreed upon thence a long the line agreed upon to the first Station It Being part of a tract of land that was granted to the said William Newman By a patent Bearing date December the 22nd 1768 To Have and to Hold the said tract or parcel of land together with all Houses orchards Gardens Fencings(?) timber and trees thereon standing lying or Growing with all Waters and Rivers with all proffits commodities and Hereaditaments to the same Belonging or in any manner of ways appertaining to him the said William Ryal his heirs and assigns forever And the said William Newman for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant grant promise and agree to and with the said William Ryal his heirs and assigns in manner following that is to say that the said William Newman at the ensealing and delivery of these presents Hath a good sufficient Right and title and Estate of Inheritance in the premises in fee simple and hath full power and Lawfull authority to Bargain and sell the same in manner aforesaid Unto the said William Ryal his heirs and assigns forever and the said William Newman for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth further promise and warrant that the said land is free from the Lawfull claims and Demands of any person or persons Whatsoever and the same will warrant Secure and honor(?) defend unto the said William Ryal His Heirs and assigns forever the Quit Rents due to his majesty only Excepted. In Witness Whereof I the said William Newman Hath Hereunto set my hand and seal this Nineteenth day of August One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Three 1773 Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of us William Newman (Seal) George Holder Edward (his X mark) Newman North Carolina Duplin County July Court One thousand seven hundred and seventy four 1774. The within deed from William Newman to William Ryal was proved in open court By the Oath of acknowledged by the said William Newman and ordered to be Registered. Additional Comments: Sampson County Deed Book 3, p. 537. No date on the registration entry. William Newman patented two tracts on 22 Dec 1768. The first, for 150 acres, he gave to his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and James Kelly, in 1770. This is half of the other tract of 300 acres he patented that same date. These parcels were originally in Duplin County but eventually part of Sampson County, which was created from Duplin and New Hanover in 1784.
