Sampson County, NC - William Rhodes to William Blackman, 1784 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wayne County Deed Book 2, page 159 State of North Carolina To all the people shall come greeting Know ye that I William Rhodes in Sampson County and State aforesaid for an in Consideration of the sum of fifty pounds specie to me in hand paid by William Blackman of Johnston County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereof acknowledge and myself to be therewith fully satisfied contended and paid have given granted bargained sold conveyed ensealed confirmed assigned and set over unto the William Blackman his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and twenty acres lying and being in Wayne County and State aforesaid on both sides of the main branch of So falling Creek including the improvements whereon Benjamin Goodrick formerly lived begining at apine on the So Et side of the swamp thence runing across the same So 77 Wt 82 poles to a white oak nigh John Temples line thence with his line So 15 Wt 84 pole to a small red oak nigh his line thence with his line again So 27 Et 120 pole to a stake betwen a marked pine nigh Thomas Browns line thence No 10 Wt 192 pole to the first station it being a tract of land grant unto Joseph Rhodes by patent bearing date 28th September 1766 To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land together with all & singular the priveledges profits appertenances hereditements to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining unto him the said William Blackman or his heirs and assigns forever and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever and the said William Rhodes for himself his heirs Executors and administrators doth covenant promise and agree to and with the said William Blackman his heirs & assigns in manner following that is say that he the said William Rhodes at the ensealing and delivery of these presents hath a good sufficient right title & estate of inheritance in the premises in fee simple and hath full power and lawful authority to bargain and sell the same in manner aforesaid unto the said William Blackman his heirs and assigns forever and the said William Rhodes for himself & his heirs Exor's & admr's doth further warrent & forever defend the above bargained land and premises unto the aforesaid William Blackman his heirs & assigns forever land tak excepted in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of June Anno Dom 1784 Signed sealed and William Rhodes {Seal} delivered in presence of Jacob Jernigan Hugh [his v mark] Shaw July Co 1784 [Note: Sampson County was formed from Duplin County in 1784; Wayne County was created from Dobbs County in 1779] ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
