M. Mathews. This Indenture made the 24th day of February One Thousand Eight Hundred & Seventy Four, Between Amos Royal and Mary S. Royal his wife, of the county of Sampson and State of North Carolina of the first part and Oliver M. Matthews of the county of Duplin and State aforesaid of the second part: Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Two Thousand Dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents doth bargain sell and convey unto the party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land in county of Sampson and State aforesaid situated on Hoe’s Swamp and bounded as follows ( Viz; Beginning a stake near Piney Grove Church on the road Lane’s Corner & runs his line So. 56 ˝ E. 203 Poles to a pine his corner thence his other line So. 40 W. 170 Poles to an Ash on the main run of Hoe’s Swamp thence to the main road thence the Clinton & Goldsboro Road 264 Poles to the beginning containing Two Hundred & Fifty acres more or less, to have and to hold the said lands & premises and all singular the tenements & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any way appertaining to him the party of the second part his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use and behoof in fee simple forever and the said party of the first part doth warrant and defend the right and title of said lands to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim or claims of all persons whoever, signed and sealed and delivered in presence of date above. State of North Carolina, Sampson County.{ In the Probate Court} On this the 24th day of February in the year 1874, before me James K Morissey, Judge of Probate for said county, personally appeared Amos Royal and Mary Royal his wife the persons described in, and who signed the annexed conveyance, and severally acknowledged the due execution thereof, for the purpose herein expressed, and therefore the said Mary Royal being by me personally examined apart from her said husband touching her voluntarily consent thereto acknowledges that she had executed the same freely , and without fear or compulsion of her said husband, and does now voluntarily assent thereto, and hereby relinquishes right of dower in said lands hereupon, let the said Deed & this certificate be registered.
