The Southport Leader May 15, 1890
Avery Butler, the fourteen year old boy who shot and killed his father at
Clinton recently has been convicted of murder and sentenced to be hanged June
10th. He said in his testimony on his own behalf that his mother urged him to
assassinate his father.
