Aug. 9th, 1862, at his father’s residence, in Sampson county, N. C., of a wound received at the battle before Richmond, Ezekiel M. Boyette, aged 21 years. This excellent young man was a beloved member of the Church of Christ, at Six Runs, Sampson county, N. C. He was zealous, devoted and pious, and was much esteemed by his acquaintances. Early in the war he enlisted in the defence of the South and proved to be a brave soldier, but having been wounded near Richmond in the memorable 7 days’ fight he was sent home, where he lingered only a few weeks when he died in the triumph of faith. It was affecting amidst the sobs of loved ones to bear his low accents ascend to God in prayer and praise. But he’s gone where the clash of arms will not be heard, nor the loud artillery roar. Requiescat in pace. Where bliss is known without alley, And beauty blooms without decay; And thoughts of grief in cloudless joy, Shall melt like morning mist away. J. L.
