The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 9 August 1898
The Clinton Democrat says the 5 year old son of Mr John Sessoms, of Sampson
county, got a watermelon seed in his windpipe and died from the effects of it.
An attempt was made to remove the seed, but it could not be definitely located.
The boy was recovering from a spell of fever and was quite weak.
