Sampson County, NC - Obituary of R.T. Williford, 1960 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ R.T. Williford Dies At Home Richard T. Williford 75, of Route 1, Newton Grove died Wednesday morning at his home. The funeral was set for 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at Unity Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rufus Cromartie and Elder Lester Lee officiating and burial following in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannie Rhodes Williford; four sons, Albert Joe and Harding Williford all of Route 1, Newton Grove and Jesse Williford of Erwin; four daughters, Mrs. Herman McLamb, Mrs. Hettie Belle Denning, and Mrs. Estelle Herring all of Route 2, Dunn, and Mrs. Ada McLamb of Route 5, Dunn; two sisters, Mrs. Spicy Beasley and Mrs. Mary Denning, both of Goldsboro and 19 grandchildren. Notes: Richard Thomas Williford was the son of Richard William (Dick) Williford and Hester Jane Raynor of Johnston County. He was married to Nannie Elizabeth Rhodes. Richard was born in the "Neuse Islands" near Cox's Mill in Johnston County, but after marriage moved to Newton Grove. Two brothers, Samuel and William "Bill" later followed. Each of the three brothers raised large families. Many still live in the area. Obituary from the Smithfield Herald of 30 Sep 1960.
