Marriage Settlement between Betsey J. Coates and Arthel Lee

This indenture made this the 12th day of August one thousand eight hundred & 
seventy three between Betsey J Coates of the county of Sampson & State of 
North Carolina of the first part and Arthel Lee of the county & state 
aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth whereas a marriage is intended 
shortly to be solemnized between the said Betsey J Coates and Arthel Lee in 
and for consideration of the same & the said party of the first part agree to 
& with the party of the second part that the said Betsey J Coates relinquishes 
all of the estate right title interest claims demands dower & right of dower 
in law and equity or other wise in all the lands that the said Arthel Lee now 
owns or in any lands that may hereafter come into his possession and that said 
Betsey J Coates hereby acknowledge that I fully understand the above condition 
& full consent to the same. In testimony whereof I the said Betsey J Coates 
have hereunto set my hand and seal the day & year above written.

Sampson County - In the Probate Court
The execution of the foregoing and within Marriage Contract between Betsey J 
Coates and Arthel Lee by the said Betsey J Coates was this the 27th day of 
January AD 1874 duly proven before the undersigned Judge of Probate for said 
county by the oath and examination of J E West one of the subscribing 
witnesses thereto. Therefore let the said contract and this certificate be 
registered.
