In the name of God Amen I DAVID DODD of the County of Sampson and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory Blessed be God do this Seventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and thirteen and in the thirty seventh & thirty eighth year of American Independence, make ordain and publish this my last Will and Testament, in manner Following-that is to say-First after paying all my Just debts I give and bequeath to my beloved wife ELISABETH DODD the House & Plantation whereon I now live also Six Negrows to wit Tom Liddy Ben Silva Dublin & Fanny and the two Negrow boys Bill & Sam to remain with her untill Called for Bill to BENAJAH DODD the son of JOHN DODD & Sam to DAVID P. DODD son of DANIEL DODD also one bay mare & colt Half my stock of Cattle Including Oxen all my Stock of Hogs one ox Cart & timber Carriage three Feather beds & Furniture one Church bible half of my plantation tools of all Descriptions and all the Household furniture Except my Books during her natural life and after her Decease the property Except the Lands to be Equally Divided between my two Daughters ELIZABETH SPELL & NANCY TREADWELL to them and their heirs.Secondly after my wife ELISABETH DODD's Decease I give and Bequeath to my beloved son WILLIE DODD all my Lands on boath sides of Cohaca(?)* Includeing the Plantation & Mill-I also give & bequeath to my Son WILLIE DODD half of my Stock of Cattle Including oxen one Negrow man by the Name of Ned also my Tarhill that is now made in Order to enable him to pay for the said Ned one Negrow woman by the Name of Bet Ann my gray Mare & Colt Saddle & bridle one Feather bed & furniture and half of my plantation tools of all Descriptions to him & his heirs Fourthly I give and bequeath to my beloved granddaughter ELIZA DODD one Negrow girl by the name of Mary Ann to her her heirs and Assigns forever Fifthly I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson ABNER DODD one Negrow boy by the name of Washington to him his heirs and Assigns forever;-- Sixthly I give and bequeath to beloved grandson JOHN BOLEN DODD one negrow boy by the name of John to him his heirs and Assigns forever and I hereby make and ordain my Friend JOHN HENING [might be Herring] and my Son WILLIE DODD Executors to this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I the said DAVID DODD have to this my last Will and Testament Set my hand and Seal, the day & year above Written Signed Sealed published Declared by the said David Dodd the Testator D. Captain David Dodd is buried at Ten Mile Church Cemetery, also known as Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, on Six Runs Creek about three miles Northwest of Turkey, Sampson Co., NC.
