He tenders Absolom Metter and John Register who were approved." Nathaniel Merrit petitioned to have his children with Mary Grantham have their last names changed to him after he did marry Mary Grantham. I Nathial Merritt of the State of North Carolina and county of Sampson being of sound mind and perfect memory (Blessed be God) do this eighteenth day of August In the year of Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen Make and ordain this my last will and testament In manner and form following that is to say, my son Gabriel Mettitt my land a plantation on the South side of Prires Branch and land adjoining there to also my negro man Jack, to him and heirs forever reserving never the less the use of said negro man Jack to my executors until my Lawful debts are paid Second: I give and bequeath unto my son Patrick Merritt all my lands on the north side of Prires Branch including the plantation where on he said Patrick now lives, also my negro man Simon to him and his heirs forever, reserving nevertheless the use of said negro Simon to my executors until all my Lawful debts are paid Thirdly: I give and bequeath unto my three daughters Treecy Merritt Unity Merritt and Ann Merritt all that tract of land called my Kenan Land to be equally divided among them, to them and their heirs forever, also give and bequeath unto my said daughters Treecy Unity and Ann Merritt my negro woman Dinah each an equal share and interest to be kept among them to their use and not to be sold, also all my feather beds and furniture and bed steads, also all my household and kitchen furniture to them and their heirs forever to be equally divided among them. Fourthly and Lastly: The Residue of my estate I will to be sold by my executors and applied to the payment of my legal debts leaving it in the power of my Executosr to carry my turpentine also to burn off my Larkilns and Carry the Tarr also to Witming if it can be sold there to greater advantage, and I do hereby Make and appoint my son Patrick Merritt and my friend John Bryan Executors to this my last will and Testament In witness whereof I the said Natial have to this my last will and Testament set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year above written.
