This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Lesley Looper ==================================================================== In the name of God Amen: I Rezin Royal, of North Carolina Sampson County, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do hereby make declare and decree this paper wr__ting to be and contain my last will and Testament, revoking all or any other by me at any previous time made First - I require my Executors (hereafter name) to bury my remains in a suitable and decent manner and to pay all my just debts of every kind and denomination. Second - I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catharine Royal the four following negroes and their increase Elcinda aged about 25 years and her three children, Isaiah aged 6 years, Henry aged 4 years, and Amos aged 2 years, to have and to hold to my wife Catharine and her Heirs forever. Third. I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catharine Royal during her natural life my home plantation wherever is situated my dwelling House, and another small tract adjoining the same which I received by the last Will and Testament of deceased Father Young Royal and after her death the above named land to go to my grand son John C. Carver who is the son of my beloved daughter Edith, who is married with David Carver of Cumberland County. Fourth. I give divise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catharine Royal all my Household and kichun furniture of every description, all my farming Tools of every description, all my stock of Horses, Hogs, Cattle, Sheep and Poultry of any kind whatever, all my crop and provisions of any kind, excepting only one good Bed & Stead and all nicepay(?) furniture out of my household furniture or their full value which my Executors are required to reserve for my Grand Son John D. Carver, before mentioned. Fifth. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved Grand Son John D. Carver, son of David Carver and my beloved daughter Edith now his wife, one Tract of land known as the Wiley Herring Place to him and his Heirs forever, but if the said John D. Carver should die before accruing the age of 21 years, then the above named land is to go to the two brothers of the said John (Alexander and Josiah Carver) and their Heirs forever. Also I give devise and bequeath unto my Grand Son John D. Carver all my other lands after the death of my beloved wife who has been granted her life Estate in the same, under the same rules and instructions and contingencies as are mentioned the before granted tract of land to him and his two brothers. Also I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved Grand son John D. Carver all my negroes not before granted to my wife, to him & his Heirs forever, under the following conditions: these negroes intended for my Grand son John D. Carver are left to my wife for her use & benefit until my Grand son arrives at the age of 21 years: my wife during this time being hereby required to educate & maintain my said Grand son John D. Carver, provided he stay and remain with my wife until that time if however he should leave or be taken away without my wife consent then she is not to be bound by his schooling or support during the before mentioned age of his minority. Again, in case my said Grand son John D. Carver should not arrive at the age of twenty one then I give devise and bequeath all the negroes intended for my Grand son John D. Carver to his two brothers, Alexander and Josiah Carver to them & their Heirs forever. Sixth. I hereby require & command my Executor to first pay and discharge such debts as I may leave behind me unpaid whereever my friends Thomas J M__isy & William Ashford may be securities or in any way liable for me either in Bank or to individuals. And for the payment of what debts I may leave I hereby require my Executors to sell any & all my other property either at public or private sale, before touching the four negroes granted to my wife Catharine. Seventh. I give divise & bequeath unto my three sons Young, Josiah & John Royal Five Dollars each to be paid by my Executor when called upon by my sons in person. Eighth.
