Harwood) who celebrated for her 88th birthday on Feb 6. She was born near St. Martin's Church Feb 6, 1860, a daughter of the late Ephraim and Elizabeth Correll Coble. Her girlhood was spent during the dark days and amist the hardships of the civil war and reconstruction. Yet by utilizing the limited educational advantages of the times, and by thrift and industry, she carried on nobly her part in rearing and educating a large family of Stanly County Citizens. On Feb 15, 1877 she married the late Jacob M. Harward, who died in November, 1924, one day after he was elected Stanly County surveyor. He had served upwards of 40 years as surveyor in Stanly County. Mrs. Harward lived on a farm near St. Martin's Church from her marriage until 1906 when she moved with her family to Albemarle. Mrs. Harward now enjoys good health, and possess a clear memory and interesting knowledge of Stanly County in Reconstruction days. She has been a faithful member of the Lutheran Church since girlhood and through out the years "looketh well to her household." Mrs. Harward is ever modest and reserved, yet few women can boast a family record equal to hers. Without the advantages present public educational opportunities she and her late husband reareth two sons and six daughters, sending every child to Academy or college, and seeing every child an active church member . Her children are the following well known citizens: A. Harward(James), Mrs. Cora Whitley, Mr. K.A. Efird(Lilly), Mrs. Lawson M. Almond( Bertha), Miss Ila Harward, and Mrs. R.B. Whitley (Virgie Lee) of Albemarle, Groves E. Harward, Oakboro, and Mrs. J. P. Brown (Maud) Winston Salem. Truly, may Mrs. Harward enjoy the grandeur, peace and happiness of such a long and noble life in the observance of her 88th birthday. Submitted by Jodie Gee
