I am Forest Harmon, grandson of Thomas A. Marshall who was born near Albemarle, NC in 1838. His brother John Albert Marshall was born there in 1854. Their father was Henry Marshall born in Albemarle in 1813.... George Milton came to McDonald County in 1861 with four slaves. George Milton Marshall took the slaves back to NC the next year and sold them, but never came back and we presumed he was killed in the Civil War. Henry Marshall (Jr.) lived in McDonald County until 1863 when he was murdered by Union soldiers north of Bethpage, Mo. His grave is marked by a stone that was erected by his son, Thomas Alexander Marshall about 1900. After Henry Marshall was killed, the women went to Ft. Worth, Texas and lived with friends or relatives. Thomas A. Marshall served with General Price during the Battle of Wilson Creek, Pea Ridge and other engagments in Missouri and Arkansas. After the war was over Thomas A. Marshall went to Ft. Worth ands got his Mother, Sarah Ann Marshall, his brother John and his sister Louisa and moved them back to Mac Donald County and settled a mile north of Noel about 1867. He cleared much land, planted crops, opened a trading post and called his trading post Noel after the man, Bridge Noel from whom he got his land. He married a neighbor's daughter, Jane Kirk in 1866 and was named Post Master General of Noel - the first post master. My mother Martha Anna Marshall was their first child born in 1871. She had a brother and four sisters later. She in turn married Claude Mark Harmon in Jan 1894. I was born Dec 26, 1894. I have lived here all my life except for four years in college.
