Lowder Obit Sept. 1939 (he died 12 Sept. 1939) Funeral Services Held for Lowder Here Wednesday Well-known Albemarle Man Succumbed to Heart Attack Monday Night. Funeral Services for Adolphus A. Lowder, 60-year-old retired merchant of this city, who died at his home, 714 West Oakwood avenue, at 12 o’clock Monday night, were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at First Street Methodist church. Mr. Lowder’s death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been in declining health about three years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.S. Gibbs, pastor of First Street Methodist church, of which Mr. Lowder was a member. Rev. P.W. Tucker of Elkin assisted. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. Mr. Lowder was a merchant here for a long number of years, being a member of the formerly well-known firm of Whitlock and Lowder. This concern was noted for its fair dealings, and for the friendliness of its proprietors. Following the death of Mr. Whitlock, he operated a store under his own name. Hundreds of families in this and other communities mourn the passing of “Dolph” Lowder, who was their friend at all times. Mr. Lowder was a member of the board of stewards of the First Street Methodist church. He was also a Mason and a member of the Junior Order. While he had not been active in business for about three years, he has a number of business connections, one of them being the presidency of the Stanly Funeral Home. He was born in the county in 1879, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Lowder. He was married to Miss Mattie Barrier by whom he is survived. He is also survived by one son, S. Ray Lowder of Lincolnton; two daughters, Mrs. Willis H. Bell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Miss Sudie Lowder of this city; two brothers, Arthur Lowder of Aberdeen and L.C. Lowder of Albemarle; two sisters, Mrs. J.F. Smith of New London, route 1, and Mrs. Gertie Lipe of this city. Past and present members of the board of stewards of First Street Methodist church were honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Robert Kiser, Vance Harrington, Curtis Holt, Robert Swanner, Lester Taylor and Raymie Turner. Out of town visitors for the final rites included Rev. and Mrs. Ray Cody of New York state; Rev. P. W. Tucker, Elkin; Mr. and Mrs. James Barrier, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. P.B. Veale and Miss Edna Williamson, Huntersville; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lowder and William W. Pringle, Charlotte; Ernest Hunter, Huntersville; Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Hinson and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Webber, Lincolnton; Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Lowder, Aberdeen; Miss Eulalah Lowder, Raleigh; Herbert Lipe, Mrs. Paul Lipe and Mrs. Curtis Biggers, Concord; Mr. and Mrs. William Clayton, Kannapolis; Mr. L.F. Frick and Louis Frick, New London.
