This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Jodie Gee jgee2@sc.rr.com ==================================================================== Albemarle NC Tuesday , February 17, 1925 Mrs. Elizabeth Carter Dies Very Suddenly Mrs. Elizabeth Carter , widow of the late Captain Robert Allen Carter of this county died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs I.H. Underwood on South Third Street 3:00 o'clock this morning. She had not been well for several weeks having suffered some with weakness of the heart. She was accustomed to getting up out of bed at night when restless and going to an adjoining room and sitting by the fire. Her daughter, Mrs. Underwood, slept in a bed nearby that of the one occupied by Mrs. Carter and she usually awakened when Mrs. Carter would suffer an attack. However, last night she did not awake until after her mother had gotten up and gone to an adjoining room. When she awoke she found her mother was not in the bed. Knowing she had gotten up, Mrs. Underwood went to the adjoining room and found her mother sitting in her chair. She noticed that her head had fallen to one side and going to her, she found her dead. The funeral service will be held tomorrow at Central Methodist Church, but at this time no hour has been set. The deceased was 71 years old. Before her marriage she was Miss Elizabeth Coble, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Coble of the St. Martin's section. Her husband, the late Captain Bob Carter, died suddenly March 29, 1892. The following children survive: Mr. E.L.Carter, Pittsburgh, Pa; Mrs. Florence Anderson of this city; Mr. J.B. Carter of Albemarle; Mrs. W.L.Saunders of Kings Mountain; Mrs. J.F. Hoffman of Gastonia; Mrs. John Hawley of Goldsboro; and Mrs. I.H.Underwood of Albemarle with whom she was living at the time of her death. An adopted son, Mr. W.H.Kimmer of Jacksonville, Texas also survives. It is expected that all the children will be present for the funeral tomorrow. Mr. Underwood is in Cuba and will not be present at the funeral. The funeral service will be conducted by the decease's pastor, Rev. C.M. Pickens, pastor of Central Methodist Church.
