Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Cemetery. Born in Albemarle March 29, 1899, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Wincie Thompson Harwood. She attended schools in North Carolina and lived in Raleigh for 50 years, moving to Greenfield in 1980. She was a telegraph operator for Western Union for 50 years, retiring in 1970, and was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Her Husband, Elbert D. Cody, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Petrowski of Bernardston, Mass., and Nancy Bailey of Coalfield, Tenn.; a brother, Vernal Harwood of Albemarle; two sisters, Viola Arey of Burlington and Victoria Lowder of Hickory; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Franklin Medical Center Building Fund, 164 High St., Greenfield, Mass., 01301. Kostanski Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge.
