The nuptial parties were Miss Verdie Spry and Mr. D. Oscar Dinkins. The first interesting feature of the affair was that the groom came for his license accompanied by the bride and mother-in-law-to-be. The latter applied and paid for the license out of her own money. A large crowd of curiosity seekers filled the register's office to see the marriage, but on seeing so many interested parties the bride decided that it was a little too much of a good thing and immediately "backed out." Leaving the register's office the couple, together with the prospective mother- in-law, went to the office of J.W. Bostian, J.P., who is also Albermarle's worthy recorder. Here they intended to be made man and wife, but upon the arrival of the bridal party at this office they were confronted by Chief of Police Howie, who had just been handed a warrant for the arrest of the bride for a breach of the peace. Instead of seeing the couple made one, the curiosity seekers saw only a very interesting trial. It seemed that some of the bride's neighbors, on learning yesterday that she was to be married today, reported that she had a case of the itch. Learning of this report this morning, she proceeded to call a number of her neighbors some very ugly things, hence all this array of twenty witnesses, officers with blue coats and brass buttons. After an hour of introducing and testifying of witnesses, etc., this very unfortunate party to the contract was released with little or no cost. They then repaired to the register's office again, where Rev. Mr. Davis made the two one and ended their troubles immediately. They then went their way rejoicing.
