Joel Ledbetter - 1843 - Stanly County NC - Will Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Richard Crotwell Following is the Will of Joel Ledbetter, born about 1777 and died 1843 in Stanly Co. NC. . His wife was Lydia Keaton. A copy of the will was obtained from the North Carolina State Library, Raleigh, N.C. on Stanly County, Reel C.089.80001, Vol. 1 page 26. WILL In the name of God amen. I Joel Ledbetter of the County of Stanly and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory Blessed be God do this 17th day of February in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three. I make and publish this my last will and testament infull that is to say first I want all of my just debts paid. I give and bequeath to my loving wife Lydia all of my lands and all of my household and kitchen furniture and all of farming utensils and all of my stock of cattle and all of mystock of hogs to belong to her during her life time. I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Sarah Ma Nancy Ledbetter fifty acres of land including my improvements to belong to her at the death of her Grandmother beginning on the hill at the east side of Edmund Smiths improvements that he bought of Moses Walls near Sd (said) improvements, thence a straight line to where mine and Edmund Smiths cross fences joins at the South of my improvements, thence with Sd cross fence to Whitfield's line, thence west course for compliment, and then to the beginning. I also give and bequeath to the Sd Sarah Ma Nancy one table and bed and stead and furniture, one chair, one milch crock, one oven, one chist, one cupboard, one water pail, to belong to her at the death of her Grandmother. I give and bequeath fifty acres of land to my Grand daughter Lydia Levena Smith including the improvements whereon Edmund Smith lives, beginning at the affore Sd corner of Sarah Ma Nancy's, beginning corner and run thence south to the road at the east side of John Shoffners, thence with Sd road to another road that leads from Sd Shoffners to John Udy Sr, thence with Sd road a distance far enough to take in the improvements whereon Edmund Smith lives, thence north a distance to take in all the Sd Edmund's improvements, thence west to Sarah Ma Nancy's line then to the beginning. I give and bequeath to my grand son John Stanly Walls fifty acres of land beginning on the first mentioned corner of Sarah Ma Nancy's and run thence with Lydia Lowvena Smiths first line to the top of the first hill thence down the ridge to George Criscos line, thence crossing the maple branch a north east course sufficient to take in the improvements whereon Moses Walls lives, thence to beginning. I give and bequeath to my loving sons and sons in law one note on Thomas Dun in the sum of one hundred dollars to be equally divided if collected with the exception of Thomas Turner but what he justly owes to me - and I hereby make and ordain my worthy friends Andrew Honeycutt and A. The said Will and Testament was admited to probate and ordered to be recorded. D. Hearne, Clerk 1843 May Session of court page 81 - Alfred Ledbetter, one of the Executors named relinquished his right to qualify. John Ledbetter was appointed administrator of the estate with will annexed, entered into bond of $200 with Dan'l Eford and Edmund Smith as securities. Page 96 Estate Settlement - Joel Ledbetter, John Ledbetter Administrator. 1845 February Session, page 141, Myrick Harwood, Soloman Efird, and John F.
