Styles marshallstyles@yahoo.com June 2003 During the span of four years, from 1861-1865, a total of 1,516 men had served in the 11th Infantry Regiment, North Carolina Troops, CSA. To honor those men, here is a list of the 82 survivors who were with General Robert E. Lee when the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia was surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, Virginia on April 9, 1865. At the time of the surrender in April 1865, he was home in Madison County, NC, convalescing from the amputation of his right arm, at the shoulder.
