All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Carolyn Shank Carolynshank@msn.com September 7, 2008, 11:48 am Wilmington Gazette Thurs., Dec. 23, 1802 December 23, 1802 RALEIGH, DEC. 13 -- This morning the blanks were filled on the bill for laying off the State into different districts for electing members of Congress as follow: Dist. 1 - Chowan, Currituck, Hertford, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Camden, Gates Dist. 2 - Halifax, Northampton, Bertie, Martin, Dist. 3 - Beaufort, Hyde, Pitt, Edgecombe, Tyrrell, Washington Dist. 4 - Lenoir, Craven, Carteret, Jones, Greene, Wayne, Johnston Dist. 5 - New Hanover, Brunswick, Onslow, Duplin, Sampson, Bladen Dist. 6 - Franklin, Granville, Warren and Nash Dist. 7 - Richmond, Montgomery, Anson, Moore, Cumberland, and Robeson Dist. 8 - Wake, Orange and Chatham Dist. 9 - Guilford, Rockingham, Caswell, Person and Randolph Dist. 10- Cabarrus, Rowan, and Meckenburg Dist. 11- Burke, Lincoln, Buncombe and Rutherford Dist. 12- Surry, Stokes, Iredell, Wilkes and Ashe The election is to take place in August as usual. The bill is not yet passed, but it is expecting to pass in this manner. This morning the Assembly elected JAMES VAUGHAN of Granville, Colonel of the Cavalry for Hillsboro District. The bill for dividing the State into 20 Superior Court districts, has been rejected in the Senate. The Act to prevent the practice of Dueling passed its third reading, 61 to 51.
