I, P. 1 ANNIE GRENN SPENCE FRANCIS COURTLAND – Mrs. Annie Spence Francis, 65, widow of Raleigh Milton Francis, died early Thursday in a hospital after a brief illness. A native of North Carolina, her parents were Oscar J. and Mrs. Rose Lee Davis Spence. She was a member of Vincent Grove Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons, Gilbert G. Francis of the Air Force, Robert C. Francis of Ft. Lewis, Wash., James E. Francis of Waynesboro and John Milton Francis of Richmond; eight daughters, Mrs. Robert B. Johnson, Mrs. James W. Heath, Mrs. Garland Bryant and Mrs. Elmo Fowler of Courtland, Mrs. John D. Carlin of Virginia Beach, Mrs. John Carr of Holland and Mrs. Clayton Best and Mrs. Charles W. Carter of Franklin; five sisters, Mrs. J.B. Barnes of Conway, N.C., Mrs. W.J. Dameron of Richmond, Mrs. W.W. Harris of Chesapeake, Mrs. Verlie Rose of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Walter Reagle of Finleyville, Pa.; and 21 grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. C.B. Spivey of Vincent Grove Methodist Church and Rev. Bryon Halstead of Courtland Methodist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were G.S. Burgess, John D. Burgess, Lewis Bryant, David L. Johnson, Herbert Francis and Jessie Francis.
